Cash & Carry (checks with ID)

This one-day event features the works of Jamie Bossert. Strands of precious and semi-precious stones will be available, including the following: iolite, peridot, tourmaline, garnet, citrine, carnelian, labrodorite, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, aquamarine, opal, amethyst, lapis lazuli and more.

Jamie Bossert an lapidary artisan from the Blue Springs, Missouri has been fascinated with rocks  since she was 10 years old. That is when she started working with her grandfather tumbling and polishing stones to set jewelry for her grandmother, mother, and aunt.  After working in her father's industrial tool company's machinery shop, she learned  how to cut, grind and drill her own stones.  Her passion for  the simple  river rock stones, the mountains she sees in her travels,  and gemstones shows in the unique and beautiful strands of semi-precious and precious stones that she sells.

Please Note: All beads, beading supplies, and pendants normally available at Beads N Botanicals will be available at a fifteen percent discount, just for the day of the Bead Trunk Show (discount does not apply to beads from the One-Day Only Trunk Show by artisan Jamie Bossert).

Jade, Coral, Turquoise Beads, New Votives and Soaps, Other Crystals in Urbana Shop

Hope to have the Summer Schedule published in about a week. Things should get hopping once again here at Beads N Botanicals starting in June. In addition to our Psychic Fair on Saturday, June 12, from 10am to 5pm, Marlita will continue to be available every other Wednesday (and a Saturday or two) for reflexology (foot massage) and Reiki energy healing sessions. Call for an appointment.

In other news, by the end of next week, we should have most of our new crystals, crystal candleholders, faceted glass rondelles and other beads out and available for purchase. We were lucky to get a few more Selenite candleholders (our regular supplier is no longer carrying them), citrine cluster and amethyst cluster tea light holders. They are absolutely gorgeous.

As you may know,Amethyst is known as a Stone of Sobriety, love, intuition, intellect and healing. Cuts through illusion. Good for meditation. It is a crystal that also increases psychic gifts.

Citrine is used to detoxify the body and regenerate tissue.  It is a stone of hope and abundance. This crystal does not hold negative energy, but instead transmutes it. This “merchant’s stone” is placed in a cash box to product more income for the merchant. Helps in maintaining wealth as well. Stimulates mental focus & endurance.  Dispels fear & brings sunshine into darkness.

There's already an incredible selection of real Jade, Carnelian, Coral and Turquoise beads new at the shop. If you thought we had a great selection before, check out these beads now! If you have not been in the shop for a while, you've been missing out.

Looking for blown glass pendants or metal focal pieces? Or are wood beads or mother of pearl (MOP) pendants and beads more your style? New gemstone chip necklaces and beads include blue lace agate, smokey quartz and snowflake obsidian.

In addition to beads and findings, we've been making more of our signature brand Wise Weeds Botanicals votives, soaps and incense. By June we will also have incredible Shea Butter soaps, with natural essential oils of lavender, peppermint, patchouli and more.

Swarovski™ Crystal Butterflies Fly into Central Illinois' Beads N Botanicals Shop

Calling all beaders in Central Illinois!

We are still sorting through the new bead shipment that arrived last week here at Beads N Botanicals in Urbana, IL.

As promised, I did get the new Swarovski™ crystals out in the front case. We’ve brought in more 8mm bicones (as well as an assortment of other sizes), some rounds and rondelles, as well as some new colors.

Highlights include Swarovski™ Crystal Butterflies in all their available sizes: 5mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm. Bright, shimmery butterflies to adorn earrings, bracelets and necklaces. By the way, the latest fashion trends are featuring butterfly accents in clothing, furniture, and jewelry designs.

If you have never seen the Swarovski™ Crystal Cantaloupe beads, you need to stop by and check them out. We ordered a small selection of bicone, cube and round crystal beads in this color. With Cantaloupe beads, you get three colors in one. In one type of light, the crystals appear a light green. In another type of light, the beads appear clear to pale grey in color. Shift your lighting once more, and the crystals have a peachy cantaloupe color. Not only are these colors among the fashion colors for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2009 fashion season, they are also hot colors for the Fall/Winter 2009 fashion scene. Never mind that they are just a neat crystal to work with.

As always here at the Beads N Botanicals shop, you can select as few as one Swarovski™ Crystal bead for a project or a 100 Swarovski™ crystals. The choice is yours.

Bogart's closes its doors - News

Bogart's closes its doors - News

I was surfing the web and found this old news article at the Daily Illini. Thought it was interesting because many people say we're about as close as it gets to the old Bogart's. Although we do NOT offer piercing services, Beads N Botanicals does offer body jewelry, as well as more than a couple of hundred types of hand-dipped incense that we make right in Urbana, handblended oils, handmade candles, jewelry, crystals and more.

80,000-year-old Beads Shed Light on Early Culture

Even the very first modern humans may have spruced themselves up with beaded bling.

Twelve shell beads discovered in a cave in eastern Morocco have been dated at more than 80,000 years old, making them one of the earliest examples of human culture. The beads are colored with red ochre and show signs of being strung together.

Similar beads have been found in other parts of Africa and the Middle East, suggesting the first Homo sapiens literally carried their penchant for baubles with them as they populated the world.
